About Me

I am djspinnet, and my name is Jinny Wong.

I'm not particular about age - so here's one little detail about me - I am 23 years old, female, and Malaysian, currently halfway to completing my Postgraduate Diploma in Arts (Research) in Monash University and am a Bachelor of Computer Science degree holder from the same University. Some people have called me an unconventional girl, sometimes I think I am. I used to fight for children's rights, now I fight for gender equity.

I got my first computer as a young kid - a very young girl, barely in my primary school years, all I could remember then was DOS and funky ASCII games. Come 1998, I hooked up the 'net and never looked back. I was 13, a geek through and through by then. That year too, I built my own website, and in 1999, started writing an online diary... that was what blogging was called then. It was hosted on Lycos' tripod. It evolved over the years and in 2003, I bought my own domain and hosting, after getting frustrated with free services with lots of popups, popunders, and lack of proper technical and customer support. Fast forward 2007, a confirmed geek by now, and still running my own blog (the new terminology... I feel so old).

I am a new diver, having took up the sport in late 2006. My dive (b)log is where I write about my experiences in diving and my dive trips are recorded. I am currently locked to a desk till December though :(

I occasionally write about life, technology, education, gender issues - the latter three being my research interest, which I chronicle in my research.log (sadly, I have yet to find time to update it and especially when my thesis topic has shifted quite a bit). Do drop by if you're interested in what I'm up to wih my research, and possibly updates to that site even when I complete my P.Dip. Whether I will do my PhD depends on whether I get first class honours in my P.Dip :) so don't ask me about PhDs yet!

I am also a keen photographer, here is my portfolio, and a keen artist.
